Our Picks
Plant-Based Disposable Diapers
Fragranced conventional diapers with lotion strips
Plant-based, fragrance-free disposables are gentle on sensitive skin and still absorb well overnight. Several brands offer subscriptions so you never run out.
Fragrance-free, plant-based materials, newborn to toddler sizes
Why we picked it: Fragrance is a common skin irritant, so fragrance-free diapers remove one of the most frequent triggers of diaper-area irritation.

Water-Based Fragrance-Free Baby Wipes
Fragranced wipes with preservative allergens
Short ingredient lists, mostly water, and no fragrance mean less irritation on newborn and eczema-prone skin.
Water-based, fragrance-free, plant-based cloth
Why we picked it: A short ingredient list means fewer potential irritants, and skipping fragrance is especially helpful for newborn and eczema-prone skin.

Zinc Oxide Diaper Cream
Fragranced petroleum diaper creams
Zinc oxide forms a protective barrier on irritated skin, and plant-oil bases skip added fragrance.
Zinc oxide barrier, fragrance-free formulas
Why we picked it: Zinc oxide is an FDA-recognized skin protectant that forms a physical barrier between skin and moisture.

Cloth Diapers & Reusable Wipes
Single-use diapers & wipes
Reusable cloth diapers, flannel wipes, liners, and a diaper sprayer cut waste and long-term cost. Many families use them part-time alongside disposables.
Washable covers & inserts, flannel wipes, toilet-mounted sprayer
Why we picked it: Reusables cut down on single-use waste, and you control exactly what touches baby's skin through your own wash routine.

FAQs
What does 'TCF' or 'chlorine-free' mean on diapers?
TCF (totally chlorine-free) pulp is whitened without any chlorine compounds. ECF (elemental chlorine-free) skips elemental chlorine gas but may use chlorine dioxide. Both greatly reduce dioxin by-products compared with older bleaching methods. Check each brand's page for what it actually uses.
Are water wipes really better for newborns?
Many pediatricians suggest fragrance-free, minimal-ingredient wipes, or just warm water and a soft cloth, for the first weeks and for babies with sensitive skin or eczema. Fragrance and some preservatives are common contact allergens.
Can I use zinc oxide diaper cream with cloth diapers?
Thick zinc creams can build up on cloth diapers and reduce absorbency. Use a disposable or fleece liner between the cream and the diaper, or choose a cream the brand labels as cloth-diaper safe.
