Best Organic Swaddles & Sleep Sacks (2026)
Babies spend about 12–16 hours a day in their sleepwear. These breathable cotton swaddles, wearable blankets, transition sacks, and zip sleepers help keep the sleep space safe without loose blankets or synthetic fleece.
0–12m1–2 yrs
What to Avoid
- Loose blankets in the crib (the AAP recommends a bare sleep space for infants)
- Weighted sleep sacks and swaddles (the AAP and CPSC advise against them)
- Polyester fleece sleepwear that can cause overheating
- Swaddling once a baby shows signs of rolling over

Our Picks
Organic Muslin Swaddle Blankets
Polyester and fleece receiving blankets
Big, breathable muslin squares work for swaddling, burping, stroller shade, and nursing cover. Babies use them long after the swaddle stage.
Organic cotton muslin, large squares, softens with washing
Why we picked it: Muslin's open weave is light and breathable, which helps prevent overheating; stop swaddling once baby shows signs of rolling, per AAP guidance.

Breathable Cotton Sleep Sacks
Loose blankets in the crib
A wearable blanket keeps your baby warm without anything loose in the crib, and it zips easily for middle-of-the-night diaper changes.
Cotton or organic cotton, sleeveless wearable blanket, zip closure
Why we picked it: A sleeveless wearable blanket keeps baby warm without loose bedding, which the AAP advises keeping out of the crib.

Swaddle Transition Sleep Sacks
Loose blankets
Once your baby starts rolling, swaddling has to stop. Arms-out and convertible transition sacks make the change easier. Our #1 Top Pick is the HALO Easy Transition SleepSack: HALO states it is not a weighted sleep sack (per AAP guidelines), it lets babies roll and move with their arms free, its sleeves help with the startle reflex, and it is approved as hip-healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. The Woolino pick is also unweighted; the two Nested Bean Zen picks are gently weighted (see the safety note).
Convertible or arms-out designs; check whether a sack is weighted before you buy
Why we picked it: Arms-free designs let rolling babies use their arms to push up and reposition; the AAP advises against weighted sleep sacks, so we list unweighted options.

- #3: Nested Bean Zen One Classic ↗ (gently weighted, see safety note)
- #4: Nested Bean Zen Swaddle Premier ↗ (gently weighted, see safety note)
Organic Cotton Zip Sleepers
Polyester fleece footed pajamas
Snug-fit organic cotton zip sleepers are soft and breathable, and two-way zippers make diaper changes quick.
Organic cotton, snug-fit, zip front
Why we picked it: Cotton breathes well, and under U.S. rules snug-fitting children's sleepwear doesn't need flame-resistant treatment, which is why cotton sleepers are cut to fit close.

FAQs
When should I stop swaddling my baby?
The AAP recommends stopping swaddling as soon as your baby shows signs of trying to roll over, often around 2–4 months. Switch to an arms-free sleep sack or a transition sack at that point.
Are weighted sleep sacks safe?
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises against weighted sleep products for infants. Its parent guide says: "Don't use weighted blankets, sleepers, swaddles or other weighted objects on or near your baby." The CPSC gives the same advice. If you are considering a gently weighted product, such as the Nested Bean Zen sleep sacks and swaddles shown above, check with your pediatrician first.
What TOG sleep sack should I use?
As a general guide, use a lightweight 0.5 TOG sack in warm rooms (about 75°F and up), a 1.0 TOG sack around 69–74°F, and a heavier 2.5 TOG sack in cooler rooms. Dress your baby in one light layer underneath, and check the back of their neck for sweating.
